Can you help? Acrobat 7. When you upgrade computers or OSs it is reasonable to expect to have to update applications. Your application is two versions behind the times. If System is the current owner you will need change the owner to yourself as an Administrator so that you can then modify permissions for Full Control. Thank you. This fixed the problem. I went into the Program files directory, found the Adobe one, and changed the owner for all files and subfolder files to administrator was System before and that allowed me to complete the installation successfully.
Thanks again for your help. Larry, I also had the Adobe error holding me up when I found your answer here. It installed perfectly after I changed the ownership. Thank You!!!
Tim Sparacio Simpsonville, SC. I am really hoping someone out there can help me. I have tried every option that has been presented to me on here and many other resources with regard to ProgramData as well as the command prompt directly and nothing is working. Holly, what is the complete error message? I am getting the message from the Adobe installer for Acrobat 7. That file is not in the directory indicated, nor is it on any of the installation discs that came with CS2.
Any ideas what the right fix is? Thanks, I had to do this to even add the missing file which I copied from another computer with CS2 on it. Isn't Vista great?
I'll vouch for FoxIt as well, I was actually going to recommend that. You can even run it off a USB drive now. Hi everyone This Foxit thing seems great, but unfortunately my job requires that I use Acrobat. For some weird reason, Adobe Reader 7. Any advice as to how to deal with this? I went to the Adobe site and they mention something about tinkering with the relevant registry key the one mentioned in the error message, which never varies in RegEdit, but this seemed way too risky for a relative newbie such as myself..
Thanks to anyone with advice! I really need to get Adobe Reader 9. One note about Foxit Reader. It's a fantastic program and I use it almost exclusively. As for removing acrobat, you could try and remove it manually. First remove the adobe launcher if it's installed from the startup programs folder.
Then make sure adobe isn't running in your task manager. Then go into windows explorer and your program files and delete the adobe folder and reboot.
You may get a bunch of error messages, that's fine. Then reboot. Go back into ccleaner and use the tools, the uninstall tool should be able to remove adobe now from your programs and also look in the startup tool to make sure any references of adobe are gone. You could try and do the ccleaner clean up before trying to do the manually delete. However it's been in my experience that when you get those sorts of registry errors ccleaner's uninstaller still doesn't work.
Thanks so much for your instructions! Just to make sure I'm with you, is the following procedure correct? Run CCleaner registry cleaner repeatedly until it can clean everything without error incidentally, CCleaner has in my experience NEVER failed to miss a single registry item Go to CCleaner and use it to uninstall Adobe Reader 7.
Download and install Adobe Reader 9. Is this right? Also, I must mention that I have some other Adobe items on my machine, can I leave them alone as my only problem is with Adobe Reader 7. Yep you've got the order right and you can leave the other adobe software alone.
